2012 The Alan Turing Year

Alan Mathison Turing (June 23, 1912 - June 8,1954)

- Turing is widely considered to be the father of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence.
- He was highly influential in the development of computer science, providing a formalisation of the concepts of "algorithm" and "computation" with the Turing machine, which played a significant role in the creation of the modern computer.
- Alan Turing the British mathematician, logician and computer scientist who used all of these skills to help decrypt the Nazi codes during World War II, is now recognised as a hero.  
The Turing Award
The Turing Award is widely known as the “Nobel Prize” of computing. It is an annual award given since 1966 by the Association for Computing Machinery to: “an individual selected for contributions of a technical nature made to the computing community. The contributions should be of lasting and major technical importance to the computer field”. The award receives finanacial support from both Intel and Google and includes a $ 250,000.00 monetary component.
